Need to talk to someone?
If betting stops being fun, free and confidential help is available in India.

Warning signs that betting is taking over
Money shows it first: stakes paid from cash meant for rent, fees, EMI or groceries, or borrowing to keep playing. The second is time: opening the site again and again during work, meals or late at night, and feeling restless when you cannot.
Tick the questions below honestly. Two or more "yes" answers mean it is time to take a break and tell someone you trust.
Other signals are quieter: chasing a "big" multiplier, believing a Telegram predictor or tipster, or feeling that a win is overdue. No pattern makes a crash round or a card deal predictable.
Limits you can set today on your phone and UPI app
Pick a monthly figure you could lose and still pay every bill, say ₹2,000, write it down, and split it into four weeks of ₹500. When the week's money is gone, the week is over.
Then let the phone hold you to it:
- Android: Settings → Digital Wellbeing & parental controls → Dashboard → pick Chrome or the betting shortcut → App timer, for example 30 minutes a day.
- iPhone: Settings → Screen Time → App Limits for Safari, or block the operator's address under Content & Privacy Restrictions; ask a family member to set the Screen Time passcode.
- UPI: pay only from one small bank account that holds the week's amount, not from the account that receives your salary.
- Turn off notifications from any betting site, and remove its home-screen shortcut when you take a break.
None of this needs the operator's help, which matters, because some operators offer very few tools.
4rabet breaks and self-exclusion: what its policy offers
Under 4rabet's Responsible Gaming Policy a pause lasting 24 hours, 7 days, 1 month or 3 months is available. Full self-exclusion runs for a minimum of 1 year and cannot be lifted early.
Support, Bets History, Payments History and Profile were the only tabs in the account we opened, with nothing for responsible gambling. If your account lacks the option, write to [email protected], as the policy suggests. Write from the e-mail tied to your account, state the period you want, and keep the reply.
Two gaps are worth knowing. The rules contain no deposit limits, so the limit has to come from you and your phone settings above. And the policy links only to Gamblers Anonymous, and gives no number for India; the Indian lines are in the next sections.
Offshore sites and "betting ID" agents
4rabet's licence is offshore: its footer names Curaçao but shows no number, and it has no Indian licence, so an account dispute runs through its own T&C and support. We are not lawyers, so check which rules apply to you before playing.
Never pay a "betting ID agent" on Telegram or WhatsApp to get into a site: that is a common route to losing money with no one to complain to.
Free, confidential help: Tele-MANAS 14416, 1930 and peer groups
Tele-MANAS, run by the Union health ministry, is free, round-the-clock and multilingual. Call 14416 or 1-800-891-4416 and say that betting is causing you stress; counsellors can talk it through and refer you to local care.
Other routes:
- Gamblers Anonymous runs peer-support meetings, including online ones.
- A doctor at a government hospital psychiatry OPD can assess gambling problems alongside anxiety or depression.
- Lost money to a fake app, agent or "customer care" number? Call 1930 or file at cybercrime.gov.in quickly, and ask your bank to block the UPI or card linked to the loss.
If you have thoughts of harming yourself, call Tele-MANAS now or go to the nearest hospital emergency department.
When someone in your family bets too much
Talk when both of you are calm, about specific things you have seen, such as a missed EMI or a phone that never leaves his hand during matches, not about character. Offer to sit with him while he sets an app timer or writes the self-exclusion e-mail.
Do not repay betting debts in secret; it usually funds the next round. Protect shared money instead: separate accounts, UPI apps on your own phone only, and your own OTPs kept to yourself. Families can call 14416 too.
